"MY CASE IS ALTERED: Tales of a Roaring Girl"
A panel/lecture/ open rehearsal.

When? Saturday, May 2nd
12PM(noon)
Where? Colwell Playhouse Stage
Who? Open to all.

In this session the company will present, give insight, share, and discuss, in the context of a final rehearsal, the process of devising and creating a brand new solo performance piece MY CASE IS ALTERED: Tales of a Roaring Girl. My Case is Altered: Tales of a Roaring Girl explores & transforms current day perceptions of race, class, gender, & identity by challenging the audience to consider their preconceived notions about an actor performing outside & beyond her normative roles. In this instance Lisa Gaye Dixon—a black woman born & reared in middle America—investigates her connections to the world of theatre & the world at large via disparate texts, personalities, & topics ancient & modern. This personal journey of transformation & self-recognition ranges from Queen Elizabeth I, Margaret Thatcher, & Julius Caesar to American Football, Classical Theatre, & Hip Hop.

This residency was made possible by the George A. Miller Visiting Scholar Grant in association with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Center for Advanced Study, Illinois Theatre, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and their Board of Producers, the Department of Landscape Architecture, the Illinois School of Architecture, Dance at Illinois, the Department of English, and the College of Education.
